News: Powell Williams engaged to re-construct private road bridge

Residential & Student | David Hollingsworth | 29 September 2021

Powell Williams has been appointed Project Manager and Principal Designer to oversee the design and re-construction of a private road bridge, damaged beyond repair during a flood, that serves our client’s property.

Our client has been unable to use the bridge and their insurer is no longer providing cover as emergency service vehicles are unable to reach the property, causing significant safety issues.

Challenges

The watercourse the bridge crosses is designated a Major River by the Environment Agency which meant a Flood Risk Activity Permit was required before any works could be undertaken and works are time limited due to fish spawning seasons.

A temporary bridge is being constructed to provide immediate access for the client during the main construction works.

This has been a complex project to manage with many stakeholders including insurers, and loss adjusters but we are set to see the bridge completed within the ecology window to provide a safe crossing once again for the client.
