Summary
Whilst the location of the fire in this unit was limited, remediation works were complicated by the presence of asbestos debris from collapsed asbestos cement roof sheets and AIB liner boards, along with widespread chloride contamination from burnt plastic smoke that had permeated the construction of the roof and wall sheeting. Full re-roofing, cladding and re-wiring was required along with decoration and local structural repair. We assisted the relocation of the tenant’s operation to another unit on the client’s estate, minimising trading interruption.
Result
We progressed main contract works specification and tender, and carried out specialist asbestos remediation and chemical cleaning, reducing the overall reinstatement works period.
By dealing with contamination issues beyond the obvious damage, we avoided potential corrosion to concealed metalwork and a legacy claim for the insurers.
